This collection is an attempt to combine the theory of statistics fundamentals with practical implementation of the issues discussed, set both in the context of curricula adopted in Polish universities of economics and to manuals used in the market.
The book comprises nine chapters. Together they cover quite an extensive thematic scope – from random variable distributions through description and statistical induction concerning the structure of phenomena, correlation and regression with the variance analysis, analysis of dynamics of phenomena, to the application of certain most popular computer packages (EXCEL, SPSS, SAS, StatisticaTM PL). The last chapter is entirely dedicated to exemplary tasks and tests that may be found in sets of subjects in examinations or coursework. As such, it is a sort of a novelty in the Polish offer of collections of exercises in statistics.
Every chapter of the book is preceded by carefully selected ready-solved examples. Tasks are concise and based in contemporary reality. Their selection was consulted with experienced educational teams from the Institute of Statistics and Demography of the Warsaw School of Economics and the Chair of Quantitative Studies of the Academy of Management in Warsaw. The level of difficulty of tasks is diversified, thus significantly extending the circle of prospective users. Solutions to exercises are added at the end of the book, as are tables summing up some commonly applied random variable distributions.
The publication is mainly intended for students of universities of economics, either full- or part-time, as well as evening and external courses, including occupational and undergraduate studies, and students of courses of economics in other colleges and faculties.
