History

PWE was established in 1949 as Polskie Wydawnictwa Gospodarcze – Polgos (Polish Economic Publishers). From 1961 it changed its name to Państwowe Wydawnictwo Ekonomiczne (National Economic Publishers) and following the privatisation in 1995 was renamed again to the present Polskie Wydawnictwo Ekonomiczne S.A. The PWE abbreviation and the logo were preserved unchanged as attributes of recognised and reputable brand in Polish publishing market.
