Balance sheet. The importance, concepts of preparation and forms of presentation presents the principles and forms of preparation of the balance sheet as well as additional reports explaining its items (profits and losses account, cash flow account) that meets various users’ needs in terms of information.
The Author, Waldemar Gos, divided the book into five chapters that regard the preparation of the balance sheet and its relation with the profits and losses account and cash flow account. It should be pointed out that the content is focused on standalone financial statement. Chapter one is dedicated to the essence, scope, importance principles of preparation and quality features of financial statement. It also presents the theory of quality as a current trend in development of balance sheet. Chapter two describes the balance sheet, presenting in synthetic manner the elements of assets and liabilities. Here, particular attention is paid to issues related with recognition and valuation of those components of the balance sheet. An attempt is also made to identify factors that determine the assets and liabilities and in consequence influence the level of equity capital. The next chapter presents the concept of balance sheet presentation. It is shown how the form in which the balance sheet is presented depends on the needs in terms of specifying the financial liquidity and the principles of valuation. Also discussed here is the importance of adapting the company’s accounts plan to various forms of presentation of the balance sheet. Basing on the assumption that according to the theory of value, the level of the equity capital, including the financial result, depends on the parameters of value applied at valuation of assets and liabilities, chapter four describes the essence of the financial result and the importance of the overall financial result. Finally, in chapter five the Author highlighted the relation between the balance sheet and cash flows. These relations are also presented using examples with specific figures.
