D.Sc., Ph.D., Eng., Associate Professor. He works in the Chair of Logistics and Marketing at the Institute of Management and Quality Studies of the University of Opole. Habilitated doctor of economic sciences in the discipline of management studies (University of Economics in Katowice, Faculty of Management, research areas: logistics, supply chain management, strategic management). Doctor of economic sciences in the discipline of economics (University of Opole, Faculty of Economics, research areas: logistics, marketing, business management). His research areas relate to logistics, supply chain management and strategic management. Author and co-author of several books (including the one titled Logistyka w systemie zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem. Relacje i kierunki zmian, published by Polish Economic Publishing House), as well as several dozen scientific articles, published, among others, in "Gospodarka Materiałowa i Logistyka" journal. Member of the Scientific Council of "Gospodarka Materiałowa i Logistyka" journal. Currently, he is the Vice-Rector for development and finance of the University of Opole. Expert of the European Commission in the process of evaluating projects submitted to the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA), under the Horizon 2020 program.

Logistics plays an important role in business management. It is both an important area of the management and quality studies, as well as a tool for the forming the competitiveness of the firms, supply chains and supply networks. The article is a review. The aim of the article is to present the most important research problems conducted by Professor Piotr Blaik, related to logistics as a concept and determinant of business management. In the research studies performed by the Professor logistics is seen primarily as a concept of materials, goods and information flow management, as well as a determinant of changes in the business management system. Such an approach to the essence of logistics is still relatively rare in Poland.

Firms are constantly looking for the ways leading to business competitive advantage achieving and maintaining. The logistics concept plays an important role in building such an advantage. The formation and development of the logistics concept is influenced by various factors, among which market orientation plays a significant role. The aim of the article is to present the circumstances as well as the most important directions of the market orientation influence on the logistics concept formation and development. In particular, the article presents: (1) the nature as well as basic characteristics of market orientation, (2) basic determinants of market orientation, (3) market orientation of a firm compared to other business concepts expressing the firm approach to the market, (4) relationships between market orientation and marketing concept, (5) the most important methods of the market orientation measuring, as well as (6) the symptoms of the market orientation influence on the logistics concept formation and development.

Firms are permanently looking for ways leading to the competitive advantage creation. The logistics concept plays a significant role in the process of building such an advantage. Logistics as a concept of flow management, forming business models, strategies and operational programs, uses a number of tools, including logistics projects. Within the management of logistics projects, the projects management performance, related to the flow of materials, goods and information in the project life cycle, plays a significant role.

The aim of the article is to identify the symptoms of the logistics concept impact on the logistics projects management performance.

The article is of a conceptual nature. The first part presents the essence and characteristics of the flow orientation, referring to the research on logistics determinants of business management. The second part of the article presents the basic characteristics of the logistics concept in the context of the relationships between logistics and the management system, the concept of management, management processes as well as management instruments. The third part of the article presents the nature and the most important characteristics of logistics projects, as well as the premises for undertaking research on these projects. The fourth part of the article presents the issues of the logistics projects management performance, as well as refers to the impact of the logistics concept on the logistics projects management performance.

The evolution of the logistics concept shows that firms are increasingly focused on the supply chains formation and development, including the key importance of the logistics processes in supply chain.

One of the types of supply chains that deserve the special attention are the short supply chains, playing a significant role in the agri-food sector. It is in this sector that the fast time of product delivery to the end customer is often of the utmost importance. It ensures that the needs and expectations of customers are met. It also enables tangible benefits to be achieved by producers and suppliers.

The aim of the article is to identify the most important premises and symptoms of the logistics concept impact on the development of short supply chains in the agri-food sector. The article is of a conceptual nature. Firstly, the nature of logistics as the concept of the goods and information flow management, as well as the logistics concept development were presented. Then the article presents the essence and significance of the short supply chains, bearing in mind the most important characteristics of the agri-food sector. The last part of the article comprises premises and symptoms of the logistics concept impact on the short supply chains development.
