The main purpose of this study is to demonstrate how modifications in the infrastructure of a railway carrier contribute to reducing the negative environmental impact, thus aligning with the principles of sustainable development. This study employs a combination of theoretical and empirical approaches. The theoretical aspect involves a literature review, which explores the theoretical aspects of sustainable development, as well as transport policy and the challenges of rail transport in Poland in relation to sustainable development. The empirical dimension is showcased through a case study of a railway carrier that has implemented changes to its infrastructure. The changes made have led to a reduction in the "dead weight" of trains. As a result, the carrier has increased its competitiveness while also generating environmental savings, thus supporting the implementation of sustainable development policies. The exploration of reducing the dead weight of trains in relation to the transported load highlights the need for further research. Future studies could focus on analyzing the innovative processes involved in implementing such changes or exploring the potential application of similar modifications in other modes of transportation.

The quality of personnel, shaping the competencies of enterprise employees is more and more often an effective tool for building a competitive advantage in the dynamically changing socio-economic reality. Preparing staff for the modern economy requires the use of innovative solutions in the field of training systems. We are talking here, among others about educational and training tools specific to the 21st century, including simulator solutions using virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) technology. The purpose of this article is to present selected examples of the effective use of various simulator technologies, including VR/AR technology in the field of staff training for the TFL sector in Poland, as well as the benefits and limitations of their use. An additional goal is to indicate Polish experience in the field of training with the use of simulators, as well as in the field of virtual reality.

The increase in the importance of logistics in economic processes in recent years has significantly influenced the perception of the broadly defined transport system and its efficiency as an element of the logistics system, based on which processes in supply chains are implemented or logistics networks are developed. A synthetic measure of the logistics efficiency of economies has become the LPI — Logistics Performance Index created by the World Bank. It aims, among other things, to indicate how the TSL industry (transport–shipping–logistics) influences the economy of individual regions, including how strongly it is connected with trade development and export diversification, and how internationalised logistics processes influence regional development. Taking into account the methodology of its creation and the surveyed target group, as well as its cyclicality and invariability of the input data and the possibility of comparisons, it should be pointed out that it reflects the situation and trends in the TSL sector worldwide and in individual economies. The aim of the paper is to indicate the logistic attractiveness of Poland, based on the LPI index, as an important factor of expansion and location of logistic infrastructure investments (linear and point) and to show how both the position of Poland and the value of individual components of the Polish index changed over the years and how it influenced the changes on the TSL market in Poland. The data is based on the values of the index from 2007 to 2018. The considerations are based on the interpretation of individual components of the index using comparative analysis, indicating recommendations and conclusions on the impact of changes in the ranking and LPI values for Poland.
